mastery with historical references.

The tall and elliptical shape brings a stillness and refined moment. Suspended air bubbles within the object evoke a sense of captured breath - a frozen moment from the glassblowing process. The solid glass handles along the sides subtly echoes traditional amphora silhouettes and creates a sense of stability and grounding the object.

Both functional in reference and sculptural in execution, Amphora bridges history and innovation through light and form. The solid handles gives the rounded elliptical shape a moment of standing still and at the same time divide the object in two.

Materials & making

Mouth-blown glass

Glass is made in minutes and cooled for hours. Molten at over a thousand degrees, it is gathered, blown and shaped while it moves, a material that records the breath and timing of the person making it. No two pieces cool exactly alike.

  1. 01

    Gathering

Molten glass is gathered from the furnace onto a blowing iron at working temperature.

  2. 02

    Blowing and shaping

The glassblower inflates and turns the gather, shaping it by hand and tool while it is still soft.

  3. 03

    Forming

The piece is worked toward its final form; colour, wall and profile are set before the glass stiffens.

  4. 04

    Annealing

Finished glass is cooled slowly over hours in a controlled oven so it settles free of internal stress.
