Thomas Kiesewetter crafts metal sculptures reminiscent of tabletop Cubist assemblages and Constructivist abstraction. Merging the organic with the industrial, Kiesewetter's work has an off-kilter, handmade quality that contrasts with the precision of his fabrication process. He begins by making small, distinct geometric components, which he intuitively combines into larger, spontaneous pieces. The dark grey patina holds the form in a single quiet tone, so the joins and facets read as shifts in light rather than in colour. The geometric form, intrinsic to Kiesewetter's approach, invites a close look at the language of contemporary Constructivism.

Thomas Kiesewetter

1963, Kassel, Germany · Sculpture

Thomas Kiesewetter creates abstract sculptures from industrial materials such as sheet metal, which he bends, folds and bolts together with a playful ease. His work carries bold, monochromatic colour and an ongoing engagement with twentieth-century modernist form and the history of sculpture.
